We have recently registered as a new driving school. As if all the difficulty in getting a new company started and registered with all the relevant organizations like Saidi or Diasa was not enough, you also need to do the Driving Instructors application with your local testing centre. At present, we still await the finger print results from our local Police station. This has all been quite an ordea, but, it has not been the worst of it. One can understand all the red tape and the lagging from government departments and so on.

The real difficulty was in doing the website. Getting that up and running has been a headache of note. First, the web developers charges an arm and a leg for a decent site, so as a new company with limited funding, you start doing it yourself and learning as you go along. I still don't know what half of the coding I used means, and I am told that the source for my site looks ugly, but hey it works. So, being the layman I am regarding these things, I reckon Google will pick up my site when I search for driving schools. Yeah Right.

So I do some more reading and figure out how it all works and decide to do some link exchange with other Driving Shools around the country. At first, I email a few of them and request the link exchange. After I've done a bit of that and some more reading on google search pages, I decided to search for "driving school link exchange" in google. The result was a staggering amount of driving shools that wanted to exchange links and just as I started to get excited about that, I realised that I did'nt click the pages from South Africa button. (If anyone knows if Google or other search engines wil penalise me for linking with them or not, please let me know.)

Once I rectified this, I was amazed at the result. NONE. No link exhange sites came up for driving schools in South Africa. The reason that this amazed me was that as far as I understand, the two main thing you need to get good google ratings, 1 is good content and the other is good links of site in the same industry, and no one has requested links via the internet.

So, here is what I propose to all driving schools in South Africa that has a website and that wants your site url to have a higher ranking:

1. Create a page on your site that says driving schools in other areas.(visit my site Aspigon Driving Academy to see how I've done this.
2. Add links in there to other driving schools, but don't just make a list of names, put some small descriptions in there and even a logo if you can. If you do this for them, they will do this for you.
3. Get your link on as many other Driving School sites as you can and watch your google ranking increase.

I know this is not the only thing you need to do to get your rank up, but it certainly is a good place to start. Anyone who is looking to get linked, or to do link exchanges is welcome to email me at aspigon68@telkomsa.net Now, get to work and get your site noticed!
